Todd Starr

Todd began making images when he was 11 in the south west of England. His fondest memory’s span from home movies on the family camcorder to film photography with his grandparents.

Todd now runs a full service videography & photography facility based in Nelson NZ

Shooting National & international campaigns for industry leading brands, Todd has a deep understanding of commercial film making and photography.

In between a busy schedule of shoots Todd is a passionate chef & combat sports enthusiast and proud father. Along side partner Hannah the young family have enjoyed a vast traveling experience and look forward to ticking of more locations in 2021

The collective is PACKED with Canterbury based artisans and each day you can meet the founders and taste there products. Absolutely loving the @ursamini pro 4.6k for real estate videos. It's not the most convenient camera for shooting tight interiors but if you have some space in an open plan property then its a great price of kit. I have always struggled to get an even exposure without blowing out the windows....I've tried it ALL.... . Ive tried lighting the inside so you can drop your exposure...but that always introduced an artificial look and brought some unnatural shadows along for the ride too.... . I've eaven tried shooting multiple takes on a slider and adding ND to drop the window exsposure...then tracking and masking in post. . The ursa has a lot of dynamic range and in camera it absolutely blows my mind what raw information you can capture. . A few frames from a documentary I've been making for a few months covering the repair of the black marble pillars from the nelson girls collage. My dad is the subject and a veteran stone Mason. . He is literally 1 of kind...with 50 years experience working with raw metirials he is the only person in New Zealand...if not the world who can work with half a ton of takaka black marble....traditionally....by hand....alone....with as little electric as possible and create replica pillars that are indistinguishable from the originals. . His knowledge...patience....skill....precision and complete masterty of his craft is always amazing to capture and always humbles me to think of how far away I am from being able to say the same. .
